SEVA Immigrant Community Advocacy Project
1(800) FOR-SEVA
The immigrant experience in America has historically been defined by external limitations to opportunities that oftentimes result in self-imposed limitations by immigrant individuals and immigrant communities. America has a rich legacy with founding promises that are still relevant today. Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address heralds the phrase "government for the people, by the people, for the people."
America has defined "people" in a broad and inclusive manner--this is something all citizens, non-citizens, undocumented and documented immigrants should be aware of. SEVA will work with immigrants and communities so that they can empower themselves in ways they are entitled to as "people" of America. SEVA will disseminate the information needed by the people along their respective paths of integration into the Americans spheres of education, immigrant rights and laws, community integration, etc...
COUNTERMEASURES:
LONG TERM PLANNING FOR URBAN IMMIGRANT POPULATION
SEVA wants to work with indigenous local community leaders to help create culturally-sensitive strategies regarding long term issues that our New York City immigrant community will be facing in the near future.
SEVA will also work to create policy initiatives in order to focus our city and local agencies on immigrant needs regarding these long term issues. We are interested in developing critical plans that would be used to craft solutions to some of the immediate issues that the growing immigrant population living in urban settings will be facing in the upcoming decades such as housing issues, senior issues, and retirement concerns for immigrants with no retirement plans, savings or benefits, etc.
Let's develop and execute COUNTERMEASURES.
